Distant Illusions XIV

Eventually, you successfully snuffed out the fire, but you will need a brand-new tent and a fresh bed. Buddy seems quite disturbed by the events as you relate them: cloaked figures, flowing tendrils, revenge. He brushes off the fire as “a coal that must have gotten on your tent.” In a bit of optimism Buddy reminds you, there’s no need for a new tent, as your boat trip starts today.

He hands you a small journal and asks you very quietly to record your misadventure.

With little fanfare, you both step on the catamaran and shove off into the great wide blue.

Snow falls gently around you as Buddy fiddles with a compass to navigate northward. You look around at your new temporary home and notice a small chair in the corner that suits neither you nor Buddy, but when you look up to say something to your nautical comrade, the chair is gone.
