Value of Friendship
“I’m sure you’ve wondered what I’m doing with all of these ancient coins. Eventually, everyone asks. My usual answer is that I have found value in them that other folks don’t see. That’s good enough for most people, but I’m sure you’re still curious.”
“I’m not prone to sharing this sort of information, usually, but I’ve come to trust you. Maybe I even rely on you a bit, especially for ancient coins. So, I guess you deserve to know a little of my dealings.”
“Most of my transactions are pretty mundane. I use the ancient coins to buy things in lands that remember their value. However, that’s also how I come by some of my more odd and wonderful items. Still, even with the strange and unusual, it’s all very safe and routine business.”
“Lately, a growing share of my coins are going to an odd project. The exchanges started simply. A professor in the west wanted ancient coins for a particular alloy they contain. I started supplying him. The transactions were quick with little to no chatter. Then, one day the professor lingered. He asked if I could get him other items along with the ancient coins. I assured him that I was very resourceful, if the price was right.”
“Now the professor has a new list of items every time I visit the west. He still wants ancient coins too. I love all of this business, but there’s something unsettling about it. Then, there’s the alloy he’s after. I’ve recently heard dangerous tales about it. I may need your assistance investigating what’s going on. Will you go with me the next time I go to the west?”
