The Great Hunt VII
As predicted, Vincent ended up in the cage.
Holger asked Vincent to assist him with cornering the giant golden turkey while you gave them both signals of its position from atop the ridge. Everything was going smoothly, and the team effort had trapped the turkey within a fifty meter break in the ridge. Just as Holger was lining up a shot with his sturdy bow, a sudden “Huzzah!” rang out from above him and a man-sized cage came hurtling down out of nowhere. Vincent shoved Holger out of the cage’s path just in time to save Holger from imprisonment. Unfortunately, that shove put Vincent right in position to be caged.
As the cage clanged into place and trapped Vincent, three loud horn blasts came from above. Then, before Holger could get back to his feet, the golden turkey charged toward the cage, leapt over it, and vanished back into the canyons of Cane Pole Ridge.
“Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!” Buddy called again from atop the ridge.
Because of your help and his preparations, Vincent was out of the cage in a few moments, and he and Holger charged after the great bird. Unfortunately, your attempts to help spy the turkey out from above were fruitless, and Vincent’s and Holger’s swift pursuit found nothing but a few golden feathers.
Holger continued to try to find the golden turkey for another full day. He tried to lure it out with horned beetles and corn, spread from one end of Cane Pole Ridge to the other, but nothing came for his bait.
Meanwhile, Buddy vanished and didn’t reappear until a few moments before the party was about to begin the trek home.
“I’m sorry I ruined your great hunt.” Buddy says as he hands each of you a large sack, with an especially large one for Holger. “I hope this can make up for it and we can still be friends.”
“I don’t know, Buddy…” Holger begins as he looks in the sack. “Wait…that’s a lot of turkeys! Buddy! It’s wonderful!”
