Strange Companions XVIII
You look up baffled and Buddy's smile fades briefly before Buddy moves to follow you, his footsteps quiet, eyes alert.
“A shadow has fallen over our town, and I’m going to stop it. I saw it attacking you earlier but I couldn’t get there in time to attack it. But, with us together, we’ll be unstoppable!” His enthusiasm is infectious as he casts an imposing figure in the daylight, you briefly consider his proposal before your better judgment takes over, and you suggest talking to the rest of the Golden Leaf before he does anything rash.
On your walk back Holger’s words ring through your ears “find Buddy…”
Peculiarly, no more episodes of shadow occur on your trip back. Sometimes, you get the sense of being watched, and even catch a glimpse of a (the?) shadow in the window and a glint of light, but before you can react it’s gone from your vision.
Buddy notices your nerves and puts a hand on your shoulder, “Nothing will hurt you while I’m here, friend.”
You trudge back to Beatrix’s home, feeling strangely comforted on the journey. Arriving back at Beatrix’s you find you’re the first to arrive in her home. Rosalie is nowhere in sight, and neither is Lorn. Nothing to do but drink tea and wait for Buddy’s story when the rest of the golden leaf arrive.
