Strange Companions XIX
The tea helps to calm your nerves, and Rosalie’s presence radiates a serenity that belies the discomfort on her face. Beatrix is the picture of radiant intensity. Lorn seems to be resting peacefully in a chair nearby quietly. The entire combination is at once discomforting and soothing. Peculiar. It takes a moment before you realize that Cecil is not there.
“Well,” Beatrix breaks the silence with an irascible look, “Tell us why you’re here, Buddy.”
Buddy looks at the assembled group, a smile on his face. “A few weeks ago, I noticed a weird blob of black moving around the town. It was really creepy and unfriendly, so I started tracking it, and when I started tracking it, it would simply...go away.”
“This happened several more times over the next few days, and I saw several townsfolk touched by this…thing…for a moment, but then it would leave quickly. Obviously, it knew I was there and I was coming to protect them.”
The assembled group is nonplussed by this revelation and ask for a few moments to gather their thoughts.
