Starting To Actually Realize Magic Ain't Pretty VI
“I’ve been doing some research into another ancient wizard, from the 100’s - Adonihs - who studied the breakdown of magical effects more extensively. He mentions that magic is somehow written as an image in the mind, as much as it is the items we use, or the words we project. Adonihs was more than a wizard, he was a wordsmith. Truly ahead of his time in so many areas…”
Star breaks off his reverie as you finish arranging your latest return of items.
“Oh yes, {player}, I feel we are closer, ever closer. I even feel a little bad about using those Langstaff Flags or whatever for our game, but I never dreamt we’d be on the precipice of discovering something so new in our lifetime. So much knowledge has been lost, I can only piece together so much…if only I could dilate time and stuff myself in a pocket dimension for a few millenia. Maybe that would work with a pinch of light and dark?”
Again Star’s rambling has him looking past you with the distant glare of someone lost in thought. You cough gently and Star is roused from his thoughts.
“Well, let’s get this underway shall we? No time like now! That’s why it’s called the present, am I right?”
He chortles to himself, and after the spell, a clear line emerges on the map. You recognize some of the landscape, it seems to be a depiction of a pre-Redbrook time, somewhere to the west.
Star hands over your reward, and you head out with another list.
