Remember To Be Thankful II

Cecil does not typically share stories from his past, but he feels a great nostalgia today. If you do not mind listening, he would love to reminisce for a moment. There is a strange power in telling a memory to an audience.

The place where Cecil grew up was very different from Redbrook. It was a place where dreams seemed to spring to life, almost as if by magic, and the people were so densely packed into the city that they had to start constructing enormously tall buildings, including underground.

Nevertheless, many of the customs of the rural areas were brought into the city and stirred into the amalgamation of the city’s own customs. So, they still celebrated a harvest festival even though one would have to travel many kilometers to actually see a field being harvested.

Because of Cecil’s family’s position within the city, Cecil’s mother would invite seemingly random families to join their harvest feast. The family joining them could be extremely wealthy, extremely poor, from a far off land, from a few blocks away, a small family, or a large family. This exposure to such a variety of different people and conversations during the meal taught Cecil much about the world and its people. He quickly began to recognize, despite the obvious differences, the many similarities between all people, for better and worse.

At one of theses harvest feasts, a fisherman and his family brought a small gift for young Cecil. No one had ever done that before. Many brought gifts for his parents and many brought gifts for the entire family, but no one had ever brought something just for Cecil. Not only that, but the gift was something Cecil had not seen before. It was a beautiful spiked shell. The fisherman told Cecil it was very rare and was used for magical spells long ago. It was amazing to young Cecil.

Unfortunately, that shell was lost in a terrible disaster many years ago. Cecil would love to have another spiked shell, as fine as that one from his youth. If you could find a spiked shell for Cecil, he would be very grateful.
