Gratitude and Gravy I

Holger is sending out notes to everyone to share with them all of the things he is thankful for in his life. He humbly requests that you also send him a return note that lists any items you are thankful for. You can even use his note as a guide to help you prepare your reply.

“Dear friend,

I find myself at this time of year reflecting on the passing of time and what brings true meaning to life. Much of my efforts each day focus on baser things tied to mere survival. The securing of shelter, safety, and food and water occupy much of my time. With any time I have remaining, I find myself mostly focused on food.

For better or worse, food has become something that is intertwined in all I do. In some ways, my life is very much like a feast filled with delicious dishes and food is the gravy that ties it all together.

Oh gravy. Have you ever had a really fine and perfectly balanced gravy? It’s a completely fantastic thing. It can take every item in the meal and tie them all together, all while it elevates them to new heights. It adds savor and salt and fat to everything it touches. What more could anyone want?

Now, I know what you’re thinking. What about gravy on sweet dishes? Friend, I’ve already done the research. When I say gravy makes everything better and ties everything together, I’ve not forgotten desserts and sweet dishes. I mean it. I have yet to find a single entree, side item, or dessert that wasn’t made better by gravy.
