Archeology Requires Knowhow VI

After less than a dozen steps into your attempt to flee from your pursuers, a shadow passes to your right and strikes Lorn, driving him to the ground. As you turn to see where the shadow came from, something strikes your head and relieves you of consciousness.

Eventually, consciousness returns, but you can’t see and you can’t move your arms or legs. It takes a few more moments for you to realize you are blindfolded and tied to a chair. You can feel the wood of the chair with your fingers, and its sturdy build with your legs and back. A fire crackles nearby. Flexing your fingers, they graze what feels like someone else’s fingers.

“Oh good. You’re awake. Are you all right?” Lorn whispers behind you.

You quietly assure Lorn you are okay and ask him what happened.

“It was the Wodutrown brothers, or at least it smelled like them. They knocked us out and carried us off somewhere. Then, they tied us up where we are now.”

“I think they may have gotten in a fight and hurt each other. I heard yelling and a struggle when I first woke up. It’s been quiet ever since.”

“Now, hold still. I’m going to try, very carefully, to cut the ropes on your wrists. Once your hands are free, get rid of your blindfold and look around. If it’s safe, take the runestone from my hand and cut us loose.”
